BioShock Widescreen Support Screwed

There is all this buzz about how awesome BioShock is, and how it is getting rave reviews everywhere. So, what could possible bring such a game down? People with widescreen TVs and monitors. Members of the Widescreen Gaming Forum have noticed quite a problem with Bioshock. As the picture below shows, the game doesn’t display a true widescreen aspect ratio (16:9), instead you get a full screen (4:3) ratio with the top and bottom cut off.

Bioshock Widescreen

This is a very big deal for owners of widescreens. They are essentially get jipped of the full display and action appearing on the screen. The hand is practically cut off, no wonder it is so evident. How did 2K Games think people were not going to notice this.

This is likely to cause a lot of cancellations on pre-orders, and a lot of angry customers. This is not only effecting PC users, but also Xbox 360 users as well. When asked about widescreen support, Chris Kline, Lead Programmer of Bioshock has this to say

“The game will render in full 16:9 aspect ratio, with no letterboxing unless your resolution is not true 16:9.”

Hmm, looks like someone is going to have some explaining to do. Head on over to the 2K forums to see just how mad people are getting.
