One In Four Play Games At Work

A new survey by PopCap.com suggests employees may not be as productive as the boss thinks. The Seattle based game provider surveyed 2,842 office workers, revealing one in four casual video gamers spending their working hours playing games. These figures not only include employees, but office executives as well.

One third of executives taking part in the survey admitted to playing video games during office hours, making up eight percent of the total surveyed workers. The majority of those surveyed show gaming activities take place during lunch breaks or other breaks, but fourteen percent admitted to playing games during office meetings and conference calls.

The obvious benefit to playing games during work is relieving stress and keeping the mind sharp with brain teaser type games. The advent of blackberries and cell phones make for an easy opportunity to pass the time.

“We’re seeing employees who are much more technologically savvy and familiar with all forms of new media from social networking to blogging and beyond,” said Carly Drum, managing director of executive recruitment firm Drum Associates.
