GTAIV Freezing, Causing Frustration

It is only the first day of the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV, and reports are surfacing on the internet about the game freezing up, requiring the console to be unplugged. The problem apparently occurs after the first cutscene.

Kotaku has posted some info after talking with a Rockstar Support representative, and has revealed the problem may be associated with the 60GB version of the the Playstation 3. However, that doesn’t explain why the game is freezing for the Xbox 360 version as well.

Some people have reported that wiping your hard drive and reinstalling the game will fix the problem, but the Rockstar Support rep didn’t confirm it with Kotaku.

UPDATE:

Sony has released an update patch, V1.01 for GTAIV that solves the problem of overloading the Gamespy servers for online play.  The patch is 18mb and you can download it and install when you turn on your PS3 with GTAIV.
