Saints Row 2 Does Not Even Compare With GTAIV
I was hesitant about buying Saints Row 2 for the Playstation 3, thinking it was just a wannabe Grand Theft Auto game. And after reading a post on Destructoid claiming Saints Row 2 is so much better than GTAIV, I decided to go pick up the game.
Let’s just say I am a bit mad for wasting $60 on this game. A literally played it for a little over an hour, and it does not even compare to GTAIV. I’m not sure how the author of the above post came up with his conclusions. During the whole time I was playing, I felt like it was a game from Playstation 1. The graphics are no where near as stunning as GTAIV. It lacks the fluid movements of GTAIV, and the sound is horrible. It sounds like a terribly dubbed movie at times.
I don’t understand why people hate the realistic driving in GTAIV. Not only are the cars 10 times better looking that in Saints Row 2, but the cars also do not drive like a rectangular box that bumps into things, and miraculously has no damage.
So, the customization is better in Saints Row 2, but since when is customization so awesome? That was cool back when The Sims 2 came out. I could care less what I look like as a video game character. And, apparently everyone speaks with a British accent, Afro American accent, or a Hispanic accent in the Saints Row world. Can’t I be a normal nerdy white guy, and be a gangster too?
I’m going to finish playing Saints Row 2, just because I already spent the money for it, but to think the game is better than GTAIV is a bit ridiculous. GTAIV did leave out a bit of the content from previous versions, but just imagine the next version of GTA. GTAIV was just a stepping stone for what is to come in the franchise. I don’t think anything will ever compare to GTA games, and they will always dominate the genre.
*UPDATE*
After playing for a little while more, there are a few things I like about Saints Row 2 that are better than GTAIV. The first is the music. The songs in GTAIV are relatively unknown unlike previous installments of the series, while SR2 provides a more recognizable song selection (I especially likes the 80s channel). The other thing I like about SR2 is the sounds of the guns. I’m not sure the gun sounds are more realistic, they just sound better than in GTAIV.

What? Of course the graphics aren’t as good, but at least there’s more colours than grey, black and brown!
Also, the car handling wasn’t designed to be a rip-off of GTA IV’s (unlike the way GTA IV ripped off the GPS and phone in Saints Row). It’s meant to be fun.
GTA IV was enjoyable but got a wee bit boring. I’m still playing SR2 and I finished it 2 weeks ago.

I still think GTAIV is much better than SR2. The driving is like having a Gran Turismo game wrapped up in a GTA game.

its not about the graphics gta4 has SR beat on that but seriously? what isnt fun about more and better guns than gta ever had? and nothing says fun like driving a septic truck spraying poo at cops. SR is a hell of a lot better than gta in the fun factor and that is what billy was saying. and you can customize your cars like
midnight club dub and if they blow up? pay 200 bucks and its yours, the garage has infinate space, so far as ive seen, i have a monster truck, bus and about 10 sports cars and i can still fit more. this game, hell of a lot more fun and you need to get farther in the game to see it.

I guess it is just a difference of opinion. GTAIV is superior in graphics and realism, and SR2 plays like an older GTA game.

I finished playing GTA IV yesterday, and played SR2 for about an hour. The main characters accent really throws me off. The cars handle horribly. I can barely control them. Characters are also hard to control. Im on a pc. I havent played it to much, so cant say to much about it except the control of everything is terrible.

I keep trying to like this game, but after 10 minutes or so I turn it off. When you model a game around driving to every destination, why make the driving so horrible? And, the respect meter is annoying as well, it would be nice to be able to play the main story without having to drive all over the place doing side missions to raise your respect.
