Battlefield 1943 PS3 Review

Battlefield 1943 is becoming one of the most downloaded games for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. If you have been a fan of the PC version of the last couple of Battlefield series games, don’t expect Battlefield 1943 to be the same game.

First off the game has a maximum of 24 players, not your bustling 64 player map like in the PC games. There are only 3 classes with a minimum of weapons.  You do get 4 vehicles though; a jeep, a boat, a tank, and an airplane. The airplanes definitely keep me playing, otherwise the rest of the game is your standard multiplayer shooter.

The Frostbite engine is a nice addition, letting you destroy the environment around you. I have a feeling the game will look a lot better once the PC version is released this Fall. I would definitely like to be able to use a keyboard and mouse as well, playing Battlefield with a controller is just unnatural.

As far as gameplay goes, it is fun for a quick game or two, but I haven’t become the Battlefield crack addict like I did for Battlefield 2 and 2142. It just doesn’t feel the same. The ranks and awards are pretty much meaningless since you don’t get any extra weapons or equipment. Also, the maps all feel the same, except for the Air Superiority map, in which the two sides are matched in dog fighting between adjacent battleships. The Air Superiority map is definitely my favorite, and is what keeps me playing.

There is a reason Battlefield 1943 is only a 15 dollar game, it isn’t the same Battlefield you would expect to pay 60 dollars for. Overall is a fun game though, I don’t think you would be disappointed if you don’t expect too much.
