So you thought Potatoes were the big thing in Poland, well think again. Sony announced today expansion plans to form Sony Computer Entertainment Polska in Poland. The new Polish subsidiary marks the commencement of a new focus by SCEE on the dynamic markets of the region from Czech Republic to Russia. The formation of SCE Polska is a result of the rapidly growing PlayStation Polish market. The Polish PlayStation business will be effective April 1, 2008.

Just when you thought Sony and Microsoft had some momentum for the 2007 holiday season after announcing their upcoming game lineups, Nintendo brings on their own list of titles readying to launch. As Nintendo’s list of upcoming games demonstrates, Nintendo has a game or experience for everyone, and from almost every Publisher imaginable.
“Because of Wii and Nintendo DS momentum, third-party publishers are supporting our systems like never before,” says George Harrison, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. “Their lineup of diverse games is testament to how we make the population of gamers a little bigger every day.”
By the end of the 2007 season, the Wii library will contain 140 titles, not including nearly 200 downloadable Virtual Console titles. The DS library will grow to nearly 450 titles.

Electronic Arts today announced the future acquisition of VG Holding Corp., the owner of BioWare Corp. and Pandemic Studios. Both studios have been recognized for creating some of the highest-quality games in the industry.
BioWare Corp. is currently developing the highly anticipated Mass Effect, which will be published by Microsoft in November, and is in the early development stages of a massively multiplayer online game. Pandemic Studios is redefining open-world games with its upcoming Mercenaries 2: World in Flames(TM) and Saboteur(TM), in addition to several unannounced projects.

Electronic Arts has its eyes on the upcoming holiday season with plans on releasing 27 new game titles. EA has no plans to discriminate with games releasing on all major platforms; PLAYSTATION 3, PSP, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, PC and mobile.

Microsoft and Bungie have confirmed a departure, with Bungie becoming an independent company. Microsoft will retain an equity interest in Bungie, at the same time continuing its long-standing publishing agreement between Microsoft Game Studios and Bungie for the Microsoft-owned Halo intellectual property as well as other future properties developed by Bungie.
“Our collaboration with Bungie has resulted in Halo becoming an enduring mainstream hit,” said Shane Kim, corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios. “While we are supporting Bungie’s desire to return to its independent roots, we will continue to invest in our Halo entertainment property with Bungie and other partners, such as Peter Jackson, on a new interactive series set in the Halo universe. Jack Thompson is an American attorney and activist against violent video games. In a recent stunt to bring publicity to his cause he sent his own son in to a Best Buy to buy a copy of Take-Two’s BioShock. Thompson has other beefs with Take-Two, filing suits against the video game company several times in the past over titles such as the Grand Theft Auto series. Thompson also video taped his son buying a copy of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City at a Best Buy when his son was 10 years old.
