According to arstechnica and their reliable mole, Sony is in fact planning on discontinuing the 80GB PlayStation 3. In its place will most likely be a larger capacity disk drive model. The disk capacity could be from 120GB to 160GB.
Rumors last week led to word about the 80GB PS3 discontinuation, leaving only the 40GB version on the shelves. Arstechnica’s mole says Sony will continue to use their two model approach for the PS3.

Gizmodo may be banned from attending CES after a stunt by one of Gizmodo’s staff members at CES 2008. Gizmodo is owned by Gawker Media, which owns several blogging sites covering various news media. Gizmodo concentrates on gadgets and hardware in particular.
Cnet.com has posted a blog entry claiming Gizmodo is now barred from attending CES due to Gizmodo’s prank, which involved shutting off several televisions displays during the event. Cnet.com received this statement from the conference’s organizer, the Consumer Electronics Association.

Overline Gaming has come out with a controller for the Wii console for you to play all those Virtual Console games waiting to be downloaded off the Wii Shop Channel.
The controller is not wireless. Overline Gaming claims this is due to the fast paced fighting games requiring a quicker response. The size dimensions are 6in x 11in with a thin profile.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has honored Nintendo with an Emmy Award for excellence in engineering creativity for its innovative Wii control and the DS touchscreen and dual screen display.
Nintendo is also planning to role out two new innovative controls in 2008. A anticipated Mario Kart racing game for Wii will be packaged with a wireless Wii Wheel, while the Wii Fit will keep players more active than ever with the creative Wii Balance Board.

Nintendo has projected the DS as the top selling video game system for the year of 2007. More than 6 million Nintendo DS portable video game systems have sold in the United States in 2007 through Nov. 30, according to internal Nintendo of America Inc. sales numbers. That’s a rate of about one sold every five seconds of 2007.
“There’s no letup in sight,” says George Harrison, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. “Nintendo DS appeals strongly to both core and casual gamers, and its momentum is set to propel us into 2008.”

Samsung has recently announced its newest achievement in memory technology. The company now has the fastest GDDR5 memory on the market which can transfer data at six gigabits per second, which is more than four times faster than that of memories in state-of-the-art game consoles today.
Samsung’s memory is also capable of transmitting moving images and associated data at 24 gigabytes per second.

Activision has provided a new press release announcing standalone wireless guitar controllers for Guitar Hero III. Activision’s new Guitar Hero game has had huge success, outselling every other game in October with only one week of sales during the month. Activision is likely to ride the wave of popularity with continued updates to the series.

The console goes by the name of the “999999999 in 1 Super Game”. It appears that a single game cartridge holds the entire library of games.
