Sony might not hold the gaming console + Blu-ray market for much longer. According to the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) newspaper, Pegatron Technology, an OEM subsidiary of Asustek Computer, has secured orders from Microsoft to assemble Xbox 360 consoles equipped with a Blu-ray Disc (BD)-ROM drive, with shipments to begin in the third quarter of 2008.

It is only the first day of the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV, and reports are surfacing on the internet about the game freezing up, requiring the console to be unplugged. The problem apparently occurs after the first cutscene.

After seven months of intense competition, FIFA, EA and PlayStation today congratulate the 32 finalists who have secured their place in the Grand Final of the fourth annual FIFA Interactive World Cup. Over 25,000 players competed in the online leg via PLAYSTATION®Network. The finalists will compete to become the FIFA Interactive World Player of the Year at the Sony Center in Berlin on 24 May.
”I am very impressed with the level of the participants. It is clear that they have been practicing hard, and like any football event, practice is one of the most important things. It is no surprise that Nintendo is doing well in sales, they tend to showboat quite a bit about it. Nintendo’s 2007 fiscal year ended with huge profits. They posted sales of more than 1.67 trillion yen, an increase of 73 percent over the prior year, and reported FY08 operating profits of more than 487 billion yen, a year-over-year increase of 115.6 percent.
Nintendo is also projected an increase in projected shipments of the Wii console. For the fiscal year that began April 1, 2008, Nintendo forecasts global Wii console shipments increasing to 25 million.
